Hunan University (HNU), dating back to Yuelu Academy’s foundation in 976 A.D., is honored as an “Ancient Millenarian Academy, Famous Centennial University”. It is one of the key universities affiliated with the Ministry of Education and is now included in the state’s “Project 211” and “Project 985” for priority investment and construction. The University now has the Graduate School and 23 colleges and departments.

Professional disciplines involve 11 subject categories, such as philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and medicine, offering 25 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees, 41first-order disciplines authorized to confer Master's degree, 20 academic degree authorizations, 2 key first-order disciplines at the national level and 14 key second-order disciplines at the national level, and 21 post-doctoral programs. In the past decade, it has undertaken around 9,000 scientific research projects at various levels, gained 17 national second-class awards of the Science and Technology Advancement, 3 second-class awards of the Outstanding Achievements for Humanities and Social Sciences at Universities. Researchers from different Faculties are used to carry out interdisciplinary and joint research projects. In particular, the Political Science Faculty, the Public Administrative Faculty and the Law Faculty cooperate extensively, sharing different perspective of analysis deriving from different, but complementary, disciplines.
The team of researchers involved in CHETCH belongs to these department members. The three departments employ more than 90 qualified researchers, that have long been dedicated to study EU and China relationships both from an economic (trade, FDI, internationalization patterns of firms) and legal perspective. It should be noted that the College of Law of the Hunan University has a long and renowned tradition in the fields of Economic law, civil law, Human Rights, Public Law, Roman Law, Commercial Law and Comparative Law. The Law Faculty has established 10 academic research institutes, such as the Institute of Human Rights and Rule of Law, the Institute of Labor and Social Security Law, the Institute of Fiscal Law, the Institute of property Law, the Institute of Competition Law and Intellectual Property Law, the Institute of Measurement of Law, the Institute of Roman Law, the Institute of Good Governor and public governance. Since 2000, the law faculty has got 110 projects which of 1 national key project, 11 National Social Science Fund, 18 international cooperation projects and more than 60 provincial research projects.
