Dr. Hailin Lan is now the Professor and PhD tutor in the School of Business Administration, South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou, Guangdong (China) and the Director of Research Center of Chinese Corporate Strategic Management (SCUT), as well as the Director of Research Base of New-industrialization Development and Innovation issued by Ministry of Education of China.
He began researching, teaching, and consulting on strategic management since 1990. He was one of the experts who first introduced, digested, popularized theories of corporate strategic management, and established textbook of corporate strategic management in China. He ever visited Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (USA) from Jan. 2008 to Dec. 2008 as a visiting professor.
During the past 20 years, he has got two key projects of State Natural Science Foundation and one key project of Philosophy and Social Science Research from Ministry of Education of China. He was awarded for four times the Excellent Prize of Humanity Social Sciences (Management) issued by Ministry of Education of China, which is the highest reward for social science research in China. In 2011, he got the Personal Prize of the first Outstanding Social Scientists of Guangdong Province by Guangdong Provincial government.
He graduated in early 1982 as bachelor from Department of Politics and History, Ningxia University, then got MBA from Gannon University in USA (1990) and PhD from Ji'nan University (2004) respectively. He got the professional title of Professor since 1997. He was ever the dean of School of Business Administration, SCUT since 2000 to 2008.
He was the member of Academic Directing Committee of Management Science and Engineering in General University in Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (2006-2011). He is the number of editorial board of some Management Journals (Chinese Business Review, Chinese Journal of Management, et al.).
He has already consulted for more than twenty companies/business groups on strategic management in recent years and is the independent member of the board of some listed companies, such as Keda Industrial Co.Ltd, Vatti Gas Applicance Stock Co. Ltd. and so on. He also provided advice to government departments, such as Economic and Trade Commission of Guangdong Province.
He has published 21 monographs and textbooks and translated 1 textbook, with nearly 100 articles published in important international and domestic academic journals, such as Academy of Management Executive, Management World (China), Nankai Business Review (China), and Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management (China). Among his publications, one paper was cited by Xinhua Tabloid, which is the most important citation journal in China. His lecture named 'Corporate Strategic Management' for undergraduate students has been evaluated as National-Class Course in 2010.
His main research interest is strategic management in Chinese context. In recent years, his researches are related to the areas of integration strategy and dynamic competition of Chinese firms in the new environment (especially under the conditions of Chinese market fragmentation and economic globalization), Chinese Firms international merger and acquisition methods and strategies, and the strategies of promoting Chinese Firms’ International Competitiveness (with a special focus on China’s World-Class Enterprises).
